Alex & Ollie, Gallery Assistant & Carpenter, Broken Hill, Wilyakali / Barkindji Country

Alex and Ollie are from Victoria, they got stuck here in one of the lockdowns and weren’t at all disappointed about it. They started dating, and moved into a little corrugated iron house up on the hill. They eventually bought the house, and Alex is now eight months pregnant. Alex studied photography and she works at the art gallery, as well as at the TAFE helping local kids who’ve dropped out of school to learn trades. Ollie is a carpenter like his dad, and he builds houses in the area. He also knows how to make violins from wood. They’re currently installing a fence in their yard because their new puppy escapes to run across the road to the motel and steal food from unknowing travellers.
