Inyinnyi -

Parched river beds after years of endless drought, finally tasting water again. In the central desert the Pitijantjatjara people have a word for the smell of water on dry earth - Inyinnyi. Many outback drovers believe that their drought stricken cattle can smell Inyinnyi before the rain comes, and become uneasy with anticipation. Rain smells different when it falls on red earth.
