The houses in Broken Hill are mostly miners cottages made from corrugated iron and weatherboard, to withstand the harsh climate. Around 20% of the houses sit unoccupied, likely due to the dying mining industry, and you can buy yourself a decent outback shack for around $100,000; sometimes less.
