A collaboration with a The Bearded Gypsy Vintage Co in Berlin!
Just over a year ago I was lucky enough to collaborate on a shoot with a UK based label in Berlin that was featured in sticks & stones! To this day it’s still one of my favourite shoots I’ve worked on EVER so I thought I’d revisit it a year on.
About a year and a half ago (after watching Amelie one too many times) I spontaneously decided to book flights for a solo adventure around Europe- I’m a romantic at heart and the idea of spending autumn wandering the freezing streets of Paris at sunrise, exploring vintage stores in Amsterdam and adventuring to the quirkiest pubs in Berlin was way too exciting for me not to book it, then and there.
I’m a HUGE fan of some of Europe & The UK’s amazing vintage and vintage inspired labels- and I knew I wanted to make the most of Europe as a backdrop for my photos, so I put out a callout for creatives to collaborate. Almost immediately Tillie from The Bearded Gyspy Vintage Co. sent me a message and although I wasn’t going to be visiting her hometown of London, she decided to fly to Berlin to meet me for the shoot!
Despite it being her first time in Berlin too, Tillie quickly pulled together an incredible team of hair + makeup artists, models and the most amazing location- a hotel in East Berlin that had been almost untouched since before the wall fell and was filled with quirky wallpaper and furniture. We spent the afternoon listening to music, drinking local german beers, and taking snaps around the hotel. In Melbourne I was used to one or two hour shoots; In Berlin, shooting comes second to drinking, dancing, chatting and exploring. We met mid morning for coffee and the day flew so quickly that we didn’t wrap up til 10pm that night. To celebrate we rode our bikes through the streets to Berlin’s most famous burger + beer bar (I don’t think we even arrived til midnight). It was such a fun day and I’m so so glad I got to work with such creative European talent to create these snaps! Hopefully the next time I spontaneously book late night flights it’ll be to London so I can work with Tillie again on another campaign!
